This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Oh I think he will go away..and perhaps most of the Republicans too....for now One man's opinion; (which usually gets me a stale doughnut and a cup of coffee cause that's what it's worth)  is those on the inside knew a lot  .....hell.... that most of this was coming and here was their plan.
1) Nominate a weak candidate.  John McCain.
2) Start with a slow campaign strategy.
3) Nominate an unknown VP candidate. (with questionable record)
4) Do everything wrong in the pool of public opinion.
5) Loose the election and let the new administration deal with it.
6) Leave town with enough to live 100 life times taking no responsibility. END OF STORY

I am an independent, I am just saying we need to know more about him to, he is an unknown himself, you said nominate an unknown VP, well how about the facts that we can nominate an unknown President with an even more questionable record.  I don't support either McCain or Obama, but I would like to more about him, not just what he wants us to know.

I'm with ya to a point, aftershock.  Conservatives....well, you've already expressed how the majority of conservatives are less than thrilled with McCain's nomination.  There simply wasn't a lot to choose from this time.  Any conservative voting for McCain is doing so for one major reason....to keep Obama out.  They will hold their noses when voting for such a weak conservative, but I think they feel the alternative is just unacceptable.

My suggestion would be instead of sending good money after bad by buying stocks (injecting equity) into current banks with questionable balance sheets, the government should create a new bank (or banks) with the 700 billion and issue a share of this bank to every citizen of the United States! This new bank would have no baggage, huge liquidity, would attract new depositors in droves, and would be willing to get back into the business of banking immediately. Existing banks can follow suit or fail (which some should). Additionally, by issuing a share to every citizen you keep the bank in private hands.

Also the new bank could pay 5% interest on checking and savings acounts, have a credit card at 7%, and charge 6 % for a fixed rate 30 year loan with a 10% down payment and a credit check. The money paid for interest could be tax free.

I just heard on NBC, Farrakhan has put his whole support, behind Obama, now thats is great support that has changed my mind, if he can get Farrakhan then he gets my vote.  Maybe Big Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson will support him too.  This will be 4 great leaders getting together.  the country will be much better off when these 4 HONEST, GREAT PEACE LOVING, PEOPLE LOVING LEADERS get together and support each other.

Thats the kind of actions that got the country where it is now, give to to the democrats, turn on denial and then blame everyone else.  The new slogan for the followrs of Obama should be, " I DENY KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT IT"  they feel this is the only explantion they need to give.  You are a perfect example of a brain dead Obama worshipper.

I cringe when I think of Bush representing us at this financial meeting with world leaders.  It is embarassing but then I think of possibly Palin in the meeting and Bush doesn't seem so bad.  It would be even scarier to have a President Palin in these troubled times.  We need smart educated leaders representing the USA in these meetings. . . .like Obama/Biden.  I get sick when I think that some people vote for the person they want to have a beer with.  I vote for who I want in a meeting with world financial leaders.

It's amazing. People want to show their IQ in here which looks to be around 0%. When are you people going to learn that all you do is late hate eat at you inisde. Move on with you life. The goverment isn't going to help you. No government ever decided they would be a government to shovel out money to help them live the American dream. That's on you and if you don't know how to do it, go study somewhere besides in here. No Republican or Democrat cares what is said. It's not going to change the measly little vote in here. You people need to undertand that this country is bigger than the internet or Newsvine. So, "sign off" and go do something positive.  Name calling just shows your IQ to be going lower.
All the candidates are going to do is try to get you to show how THEM how popular they are. That's all you are to them. A popular vote. They aren't goignt o put any money in your pocket or pay your bills. Most of you probably have close family memebers that are a different pary than you. Does that make them you enemy? I don't think so. Talk is cheap in here and Newsvine isn't running any polls. Neither is MSNBC. You can't get an overall poll from, and I will take all the sites, 12,000 people. Think about how many people are in this country that can vote. There is NO poll out there that can give an honest poll. I live in MD and I have yet to see an Obama sign in a yard, but every yard, I see with a sign, say vote for McCain. I know, very well I don't live in a Republican neighbor hood, but everyone in my neighborhood has a McCain sign in their yard. I have a POLL on Newsvine that states this could easily be a last minute swing vote. If I were anyone in here, and a Democrat, I would tread a bit easier on the name calling. Those are tough words to eat if you lose. Remember the media does not count for the population. Here are some number for you to think about. The American population is around 285 million right now. The United States Census Bureau states of the U.S, population, only 12.9%  are reported "Black or African American" . So to say that people are voting for Obama because of skin color" is a mute subject. That figure leaves about 87.10% that are not. If we talked to 50% of the balance of other races, that leaves a lot of unanswered questions. One, being what is going to happen on election day. The media only counts for about 5% of the populations decision on who they will vote for. So, with those facts, who do you think the media is looking out for? Guess what? Not you. They are looking to keep their ratings up so THEY can survive this economy. They are hurting also, believe it or not, and why do you think they are siding with Obama this election? Here is the Real Reason the Media is supporting the Democratic Race"  Remember how Democrats always scream the Republicans only take care of the rich? Well guess what. The media Moguls are filthy rich. What does that tell you. You actually think the government will help you. That is so lame. All people do is show who they think is most popular. Clinton was popular, wasn't he? He just didn't have very high morals. Disappointed a lot of Democrats I know.

Our government is dragging us down.  What we need is a new government in place we need to vote out all incumbents that are running for office, it has gotten to be a good ole boys club all they do is watch each others back and don't give a damn about us, we can't be any worst off than we are now.  We need to protect our jobs, our homes, and our 401's, because they don't care about us they are all protected there rich.  Also the two party system is killing us what we have is a bunch of ego manics who won't vote for a plan to help us unless their party came up with the idea, there can be checks and balances with a democratic or republican party let's get back to basics and protect the people of this country.

With the govt we have now, and the choices they gave us, it isn't going to happen.  All 4 candidates are crooks, they refuse to answer any real questions.  There has to be somebody in this country that can do something and contrary to what the dems believe Obama is not the guy, and neither is McCain, or even Biden.  They have been a big part of the problem we have.  But we have no choice, the govt has put us in position to replace what we have with more of the same, no matter whta party you vote for.

IQ's dropping fast in here. Just so you know the problem today is a Republican Administration with a Democratic run Congress and Speaker. Where does the blame lay here? If you are going to bash, be careful. You are bashing the Democrats also. So who do we put in office? What happens is we vote a Republican or Democratic President in office. They are in for 4 years, and they people don't like the way it's going. The Party wins another 4 years but the oppposing party doesn't like the way the Gvoernment it working, so they vote in an opposing party to the exisiting party in Congress. Now you have a divided White House. This is what you are seeing today. People need to know that Congresshas a voting system in place for anything the President does. The President can do absolutely nothing, without the approval of Congress, unless Veoted. There hasn't been enough of those worth counting. So, in the last 4 years, we have seen the economy go downhill as a result of a majority Democratic Congress. I really don't care who wins, because it won't effect anything in my life, but I warn you now. If you don't make a better choice this election than a Democrat, you will have to live the kind of life you have now. I have never understood why Democrats alway say, the Republican administration looks out for the rich. No bearing at all. Democrat and Republican Administration is the same. They take care of American matters the best they can and also take care of World matters they best they can. There is no one in here that knows the importance lever of that job. If anyone had any common sense they wouldn't worry about who to vote for in the Presidential election. Pay attention to Congress. When you have a Good Congress this country will run better. Remember, they do everything by votes that decide the outcome. The President is only 1 person to make final decision and who, we think, can make the right decision when the phone rings at 3 a.m. in the White House.

skipster.....Where have you been for the past 8 years? The Democratic Congress can't get much done as long as the President holds the veto pen. They don't have enough of a majority to over ride a veto. You say you really don't care who wins, but that is a lie because right after that you "warn" us about what will happen if a Democrat wins. You are supporting the bunch who brought us to where we find ourselves today, so don't give us that BS that you don't care who wins. When we finally have a "good" Congrerss and a "good' President, we might see some real change, but it will take a while.

Aftershock may be absolutely correct.  The Bush/Cheney/Neocon crowd is walking off with all the loose money, scattering it all to their friends, on their way out.  It will take years to clean up the mess and they would rather the Democrats take the hits (increased taxes on the wealthy and megacorporations, because only that can even begin to turn the tide) than the Republicans be forced to do the same and be called turncoats by their own class, and be remembered for it for decades.  The Republicans are already trying to set the stage for making a comeback in 2012 based on the idea that the Obama administration "caused" the recession/depression.  Mark my words, in 2011 there won't be a word from Republicans that George Bush was President when all this hit.  It will be "the Democratic Congress" and "Obama" CAUSED the recession/depression.  This has been the way it is with them since Nixon and it will not change one iota in 2011/2012.  When 100 million Americans wake up to this flim-flam political game, Republicans will be out and their party will be permanently buried, if America isn't buried first.

If we had a clue, we would collectively start a party that you wouldn't have to "waste" your vote on.  I'm an independent and long ago quit aligning myself with Republicans or Democrats.  I voted independent a couple of times but always knew it was futile.

Efforts have been futile in the past but if we, as Americans, cannot finally understand the importance of developing another viable party, we will never realize it.  I have spent my last five presidential votes just trying to keep someone out of the whitehouse.  How sad.  We are decent, compassionate, common-sense people for the most part....why can't we understand that our country - now more than ever - needs to clean house politically-speaking and usher in a party who will actually speak and act on behalf of the good of the people?

Honestly, my heart aches for what is becoming of our country.  America, The Great Experiment - has it all been for nothing?

OH OK  now I feel better.  Thanks for easing my mind Mr. President.

Please do America a favor and go find a hole to crawl into until January.  For gods sake stop talking!

U.S. Census Bureau count of Population in America.  Approximately 285 million today. Doesn't it make you feel good that you put your 2 cents in this newsvine. More important. Do you think they really care. And even more important, Where do all these polls come from. I can assure you they haven't polled 285 million people.

Start with impeaching him. Then prosicute him for treason and crimes againts the American people. Then put him on a plane to the middle east where he can spend his golden years with all of his oil buddies until some day someone makes that entire region glow.

Bush may have lied to build his Unitarian (Dictator) Presidency, and lied to take the U.S. to war in Iraq, and lied about the state of the economy prior to the bailout swindle, but to lie now means he must be covering up some truth he dares not speak, such as why his plan is a tool of the enemy to destroy the U.S.A and all Sovereign Nations: The secret they don't want you to know about in the swindling bailout fraud and deception is Derivatives: The Hyperinflationary Bomb Crushing The International Financial System Paulson and all the other central bankers have been lying through their teeth about their ever-changing so-called bailout swindles. The real problem, that none of them wish to talk about, is the mass of derivatives obligations, that are in the quadrillions of dollars.

The derivatives bubble is the "hyperinflationary bomb, crushing the international financial system," warning Notice, "Until you just shut down the whole derivatives trade--wipe these gambling obligations off the books of the financial system--you are just kidding yourself." "It is time to break the silence on derivatives. The true, hyperinflationary factor in the situation is the unregulated, insanely leveraged derivatives trade. This is what is killing us. This is the great crime of Alan Greenspan."

According to the most recent data, released June 30, 2008 by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the three largest American bank holding companies, JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America and Citicorp, had current outstanding derivatives contracts, totaling $179.4 trillion dollars. The three banks combined have total assets of just under $5.6 trillion!

As of Dec. 31, 2007, according to the Bank for International Settlements, the total over-the-counter and exchange-traded derivatives totaled more than $675 trillion. However, these "authoritative" figures are, according to Executive Intelligence Review analyst John Hoefle, grossly understated. The true figures, Hoefle estimated, are well-above a quadrillion dollars.

Unless and until you deal with this derivatives bubble, which cannot and should not be bailed out, you are just kidding yourself. It is time for Hank Paulson to swallow the only real medicine: bankruptcy reorganization of the entire, dollar-based financial system. And the first step in any such bankruptcy reorganization would be the cancellation of these quadrillions of dollars in pure gambling obligations. Without such action, this planet is doomed to a horrible dark age, just like the dark age of the 14th century, -that followed the collapse of the Lombard banking system.

If you are ignorant of the 'Derivatives' factor then you miss the key to the source of the problem. I've offer this (review source) on the battleground occuring regarding the 'Derivitives factor' . I hope you guys are listening to what daretobeyourself is saying.  Everyone is so caught up in the political blame game that they're missing what's really going on.  The bailout bill did not address the issue of credit derivatives/default swaps which should be immediately outlawed from this moment forward.  For those of you who don't understand, there is an unimaginable amount of bad debt out there that has been bought by nations worldwide to make quick money but there isn't anyone who is paying back the debt so it remains bad.  $840 billion or any other amount of "cash" isn't going to do a damn thing to get us in a better position because cash is just worthless paper that represents debt.  There is NOTHING backing up the dollar and when everyone realizes that perhaps we can begin taking control of our own destinies instead of depending on a bunch of greedy, lying, genocidal thieves to do our thinking for us just because we were foolish enough to vote them into office.  Yes America, the real terrorists are housed in congress, on wall street and in the federal reserve.

Watch C-SPAN and you'll understand that voting in general elections is merely just electing which crook you would like to vote on your behalf on legislation that corporations write against your own best interests.  The REAL stuff that you need to vote on never comes across your desk.  Not only is our financial system fatally flawed but so is our alleged democracy.

The global response to the credit crisis is coming.  Wait until the Chinese, Japanese and Saudis wait for everything to hit rock bottom and drop their three trillion in available cash down and buy up a massive chunk of America's banks and corporations for pennies on the dollar. If you think things are bad now you ain't seen nothing yet. They will they scoop up California, New York and our farmland first then fill in the rest later. Talk about manifest destiny. Like Athens and Rome, the American empire is crumbling from within because of uncontrolled greed and corruption and wars we cannot sustain which have been bleeding our treasury dry. The money changers and corrupt politicians who have brought this great nation to its knees are not just criminals...they are traitors. They put their own greed ahead of the interests of their country and fellow Americans. They need to be investigated, incarcerated and have their assests confiscated!!!

I'm curious.  In the stock market, in order to sell a stock, there needs to be a buyer of that stock.  With the massive selloff that we're having, who is buying?  Do we know what proportion of the buyers are Americans vs. foreign buyers? We've all heard about Warren Buffett buying $4B or so of GE stock, but that's a drop in the bucket.  I'm not being paranoid.  I'm truly curious.

Nero420: The stock market has lost $trillions in value compared to a year ago.  Buffet's $4B is a lot of money, but not in comparison to the overall market.  My question is how much of the stock that was sold in the selloff over the past year got sold to foreign investors, and who are those investors, e.g., did China, India, and Russia just take new huge stakes in US companies?  This is a basic question.  I'm sure some business savvy person can answer it.

We shouldn't be so worried about the Russians, China and India, they are our friends.

Instead worry about the Arabs, especially Saudi Arabia, Abu Dabai, Middle East countries that do NOT have our best interests in mind!!!

When we get rid of the bush regime and republiscam control of the govt, things will certainly get better.

George Bush told us to buy houses in 2004. George Bush told us the recession was a "slow down". George Bush told us we were economically sound.

What a moron. The man has ZERO credibility. Between W and Paulson, the United States looks like a side show to the international community. Think how much more damage he can do until January.
